April Newsletter

Hello everyone,

We are still busy preparing for the State Show, which is rapidly approaching, and anticipating the arrival of spring. I know most of you are in the process of trying to get your horses in shape, in spite of the mud, snow, rain, etc.

We still need sponsors for the State Show. They are continuing to come in, but the more sponsors we get, the more added money we will have. If you have an idea for a sponsor, let me know. I would be glad to help out in any way possible.

If you haven’t received raffle tickets and would like to sell some, please contact either myself or your District Director (which is me, if you are a member of District 05) and we will get you tickets. Remember, if you sell 10 tickets you get a free stall at the State Show, if you sell 15 you get a free stall and a free entry. I know with the economy and fuel prices being the way they are some people may be reluctant to buy a ticket. Most people I have talked to that are selling raffle tickets are not having any problems selling them.

The Iowa NBHA will be having a booth at the Iowa Horse Fair in Des Moines April 11th-13th. If you happen to be at the horse fair, stop by and say hi. I would like to that those of you who will be helping with the booth, and a special thanks to Sammy Vorhies and Andrea Traeger for helping with the display.

I believe all the Districts have their shows scheduled for 2008. Check the website or contact your District Director for more information.

If anyone is planning on attending the Youth World, or is even contemplating it, please let me know. I would like to organize something for the Spirit Night contest again, it is much easier to prepare for it before we leave for Mississippi.

Please remember to support our sponsors. They are the ones that make our State Show as awesome as it is. If you are doing business with a sponsor of the Iowa NBHA or a District Sponsor, please let them know how much it is appreciated.

I still need some help for the State Show. I need someone to sing the National Anthem, and also someone to conduct Cowboy Church on Sunday. If you are interested in either, please let me know.

Good luck to everyone attending the BBR Finals.

Until next month
Jeff

District 02

District One Members,  Well, spring has finally sprung.  Well, at least for a day here or there.  I hope everyone has had a chance to get some riding done because our 2008 season will be starting before we know it.  The schedule dates and arenas are posted in this newsletter and also on the state website.  Please note the change of date for the first LeMars show from Thursday, May 22nd to Wednesday, May 21st.  The starting time will remain the same just the date change.

We had a great turn out for the banquet and awards presentation at Anthon on March 1st.  We gave away over $10,000.00 worth of awards to the top 5 in each the youth and open divisions and awards for all of the seniors.  Plus we had a Wal-Mart gift card drawing for all the members that helped at the shows.  We had door prizes for the the members present at the banquet and also had some wonderful centerpieces donated for a silent auction, which made about $180.00 towards next year's awards.  Cathy and I hope that everyone had a good time and enjoyed the awards that were given.  We really appreciated all the help we got from each and everyone of you last season and hope that we can count on all of you again for this one.

As voted on by the membership at the banquet there will be the $5.00 membership fee again this year for all District One members payable by June 1st, 2008.  This really helps defray extra costs for the shows and sets up the district to be able to purchase some really nice year-end awards.  You can pay this fee at any show by June 1st.

District One is hosting the State Show this year at Mason City with District 00 helping us.  Jeff has sent me info regarding our duties.  We will discuss these at the bowling party on April 5th and also at some of our shows before the state one to get jobs assigned and things rolling for us to be great hosts.  If anyone wants to volunteer for a specific task please let us know what you would like to do and we will work on getting that taken care of for you.

I have the State Show raffle tickets for anyone interested in selling some.  They sell for $25.00 each with 18 different chances to win at least double your money back if not more.  If you sell 10 tickets you will get a free stall at the state show, if you sell 15 you will get a free stall and entry fee.  If you want some tickets just give me a call and I will mail them out to you.  Take care.

                       3 Barrels, 2 Hearts, 1 Passion!!!!      Cindy

Glimpses of spring can be seen all over! YEAH! Our first barrel race of 2008 for district 2 & 3 is just around the corner. Marshalltown May 3rd & 4th. Grounds will not open before 7am on the 3rd, so please do not arrive before that time. This show will have $100 added to the Open 4D each day. This show will be Rain or Shine!

Our first fundraiser of the year should be getting close to wrapping up by the time you read this newsletter. Thank you to each of you that took the time to sell and help our district continue to prosper!

If you are selling state show raffle tickets (they were distributed at the banquet) please contact me ASAP and let me know how your sales are going. Getting every ticket sold is VERY important. Selling 10 tickets will get you a free stall at the 08 state show, 15 tickets will get a free stall and entry. SELL, SELL, SELL!

I know for most of us that it’s hard to believe that we can even think about running barrels on those furry four legged friends, but don’t delay in sending in those State Show entries, 2008 is shaping up to be another FANTASTIC Iowa NBHA State Championship year! State show sponsors should be a priotiry for each member. Each family is required to have at least 1, $25 cash sponsorship to participate in the state show. Deadline for getting these sponsors turned in with AD copy is April 28th. This is also the date that your state show entries are due.

Looking forward to seeing all of you soon!

District 04

Hope everyone is gearing up to start the season!  Looks like spring is finally considering sticking around.  Just a couple reminders quick...

First show is in Marshalltown co-sanctioned with D2 May 3/4

Candy bar sales will start then as well.

If new members are interested in running at State Show, they must be a member as of the date state entry forms are due!  Not after.

Please ask for local sponsors for our district shows, it helps considerably.

Take care and I'll see you all soon!

Dawn

District 05

District 00

As most of you know by now, there has been another Director change in District 05.  Jeff Vorhies will be the District 05 Director for 2008 and will be assisted by Rae Fedler, Veronica Welch, and Jeannie Lindblom.  If you ever have a question or a concern, please contact me at one of my many e-mail addresses or call me at 641-919-8547.

Our 1st show of the year is May 17th/18th in Bloomfield.  We are going to be running in the covered arena, so the show will be held rain or shine, barring unforeseen circumstances.  As always, we can always use your help at the shows, whether it is setting barrels, taking entries, or taking warm-up money.   The help is always appreciated.

We start the year off with approximately $1300.  Out of this, I will have to pay sanctioning fees for the 2008 shows, which will amount to $480 dollars.  Obviously, we have a long way to go if we want to give saddles in 2008.  I have a flyer that I can send you when approaching potential sponsors.  If you would like it, please let me know. Also, if you have any ideas for fundraisers, they are definitely welcome.  We will more than likely be having at least one raffle for a District Fundraiser and might also be selling candles or a similar item for a fundraiser.

Our District is only going to be as good as we, the members, make it.  Let’s up step up and have a great year.  I am looking forward to a great 2008.

Hope to see everyone soon.
